Jasper P. Juliano

Jay Juliano is a life-long resident of Birmingham, Alabama, born and raised in the Ensley community, the former steel-making center of the South. He received his undergraduate education from The University of Alabama at Birmingham (B.S.) in 1974 and his law degree from The University of Alabama School of Law (J.D.) in 1977. At The University of Alabama School of Law he was Alabama Editor of The Alabama Law Review (1976-77), a member of the Bench and Bar Legal Honor Society, Omicron Delta Kappa National Honor Society, and Phi Delta Phi Legal Fraternity.

During a career which spans over 30 years, he has tried many cases on behalf of hospitals, physicians, product manufacturers, and the construction and insurance industries throughout the state of Alabama. He has also successfully defended clients in construction and contract matters through the arbitration process. In 1985, he was inducted into the American Board of Trial Advocates which requires its inductees to have tried at least 50 jury trials as lead counsel. He was President of ABOTA's Alabama Chapter in 2005 and is a former President of the Birmingham Bar Association, Young Lawyers Section. He has served on the Executive and Grievance Committees of the Birmingham Bar Association. Mr. Juliano is also a member of the Federation of Defense & Corporate Counsel, the Alabama Defense Lawyers Association, and Defense Research Institute.

While his main specialty has been civil litigation, through his representation of corporate clients and medical institutions, his practice has been studded with cases resulting in major legal precedents, ranging from the adoption of the Alabama Trade Secret Doctrine to numerous landmark decisions from the Supreme Court of Alabama dealing with medical malpractice, general litigation, civil procedure and intellectual law. In keeping with the philosophy of Parsons, Lee & Juliano, Jay is committed not only to representing his clients in existing legal matters, but also to educating clients in the areas of risk management and claim prevention and quality assurance.

He is a frequent speaker on legal and medical issues to attorneys, medical administrators, physicians, nurses, those in positions of risk management, and the insurance industry. He has served on the Cumberland School of Law Continuing Legal Education Advisory Board, and in that capacity has assisted Cumberland School of Law in organizing and presenting numerous legal seminars for over 15 years. He is a past chairman of the Medical/Legal Liaison Committee of the Birmingham Bar Association, which worked closely with the Jefferson County Medical Association on medical/legal issues. Jay was named Birmingham "Lawyer of the Year" in 1992. He has been awarded the "AV" peer review rating by Martindale-Hubbell.

Jay proudly admits that among his favorite hobbies has been enjoying the accomplishments of his son and daughter, Paul and Carrie. While both graduated with honors, they also excelled in extracurricular activities, Paul as a high school All-state quarterback and varsity football player at The University of Alabama at Birmingham, and Carrie an accomplished dancer and University of Alabama cheerleader. Both continue to excel in their careers. Jay credits Marietta, his beautiful wife of 35 years, as being the major guiding force in their children's successes. Time permitting, he also enjoys cooking, with emphasis on preserving his Mother's and Grandmothers' fine Italian recipes.
