Dorothy A. Powell

Dorothy Powell was born on November 16, 1963, in Dallas, Texas. She grew up in Mobile, Alabama, and attended Julius T. Wright where she graduated in 1982. She received a B.A. from the University of Alabama in 1986, and was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority. Ms. Powell attended Cumberland School of Law and received her J.D. in 1989. She was admitted to the Alabama State Bar in 1989, and was admitted to the Mississippi State Bar in 1990. Ms. Powell has worked as a civil trial attorney since that time. She has worked for Parsons, Lee & Juliano since 1993 and became a shareholder in 2001.

Ms. Powell is a member of the Alabama and Mississippi Bars, and is admitted to practice in the United States District Courts for the Southern, Middle, and Northern Districts of Alabama as well as the United States District Courts of the Northern and Southern Districts of Mississippi. She is admitted to practice in the United States Courts of Appeals for the Eleventh and Fifth Circuits as well as the United States Supreme Court. She is a member of the American Bar Association, Defense Research Institute, and Alabama Defense Lawyers Association.

Ms. Powell specializes in defense litigation and appellate matters. She has represented insurance companies directly, and has represented their insureds in all types of general litigation. Ms. Powell has written numerous coverage opinions for insurance carriers, has defended insurers in claims of bad faith and breach of contract, and has prosecuted numerous declaratory judgment actions on behalf of insurance carriers. Ms. Powell has participated in numerous cases on appeal to the appellate courts of Alabama, the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court. She has been involved in over 35 cases which are now reported decisions in the appellate courts of Alabama and the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals.

Ms. Powell is currently practicing with Parsons, Lee & Juliano in Mobile, Alabama.
